September Concert: “Exuberance”

Beethoven:            Symphony No. 8 in F Major

Our September program, entitled “Exuberance”, explores energetic and celebratory works by Rossini, Ravel, and Beethoven and features the electrifying playing of violinist, UTSA faculty, and SA Philharmonic member Stephanie Westney.

November Concert: “Dreams and Fate”

Falla:                     Nights in the Gardens of Spain (Mvt. I)
                                            Paul Jensen, piano                           
Tchaikovsky:        Symphony No. 5 in E Minor  

In November’s “Dreams and Fate” concert, Viva is joined by pianist Paul Jensen for the first movement of Manuel de Falla’s atmospheric “Nights in the Garden of Spain”, after which the orchestra will probe the depths of Tchaikovsky’s momentous Symphony No. 5.

No season would be complete without our full production of The Nutcracker with the Alamo City Dance Company, complete with live orchestra, stunning costumes, and exciting onstage talent, both young and young-at-heart!

Copland:         Appalachian Spring (13 Instruments)


Our February program features Copland's timeless Suite from Appalachian Spring (for 13 Instruments) from his Pulitzer Prize-winning ballet, along with a pairing of Vivaldi concertos (including his famous “Spring” violin concerto from his “Four Seasons”), performed by Symphony Viva concertmaster Ryan Coppin and principal flutist Gregory Obregon.

Viva is honored to partner again with the nationally renowned Mariachi ensemble Campanas de America in a program that is sure to be a thoroughly entertaining collaboration!

As always, we anchor each season around two wonderful collaborations with our Alamo City Arts artistic partner, the Alamo City Dance Company. May's full production features Léo Delibes’s classic comedic ballet, Coppélia, the tale of love and an enchantingly life-like doll.

Following last season's exhilarating collaboration of Fauré’s Requiem and Poulenc’s Gloria, the San Antonio Choral Society joins us once again for a thrilling program of Ola Gjeilo’s transcendental Sunrise Mass and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.
