The Policies and Procedures of The School for Alamo City Arts are designed to maintain the decorum required to excel in the art of dance while observing maximum safety for students and their peers.
Attendance and Tardiness Good attendance is imperative to the growth and success of your student. If more than 20% of classes are missed, your student may not be eligible to be promoted into a new level for the next year. Please make every effort to attend every class. Missed classes may not be deducted from tuition payments. Tardiness to class is disruptive to the learning processes. It inhibits the dancers ability to focus and they often miss critical instruction. Repeated tardiness is disrespectful to fellow students and the instructor. If you will be tardy please text 210.369.8311 so we can inform the instructor. Once you arrive please wait at the door until the instructor gives you permission to enter. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late you will not get credit for attendance and will have to schedule a make-up class.
Make-Up Classes If a student misses a class, they are encouraged to attend a make-up class within the month. For make-up classes, students may attend class with the level immediately below their own. For example, if your student in Elementary Ballet has missed a class, they may take class with Dance Foundations. Alternatively, students may take class in the same level in another discipline. For example, if your student in Elementary Jazz misses a class, they may take a Elementary Ballet class. Make-Up classes should be attended, but Alamo City Arts Academy reserves the right to refuse make-up classes after 3 absences have been accrued. When an absence occurs, you will receive an email indicating the student’s eligibility to take a make-up class. When making up a class, please fill out a make-up slip at the front desk. Inclement Weather Procedures The School at Alamo City Arts will post updates on our website, www.alamocityarts.org, regarding closings for inclement weather. Alamo City Arts reserves the right to close classes at our discretion. We will not put any student or family in danger due to weather. Any classes cancelled or missed may be made up according to our Make-Up Class Procedures listed above.
Lobby Area The Lobby Area is shared by all families and patrons of Alamo City Arts. Please be courteous and mindful of conversation topics in the lobby area. All dance bags and personal items are to be left in the lobby area when a student goes in to take class.Water bottles and dance shoes are the only personal items allowed in the classroom.
Payment and Late Fees The School at Alamo City Arts is based on a 32-week year (8/15/22 - 5/23/22). There is a one-time registration fee of $40 per family. If you withdraw from The School at Alamo City Arts for any reason, it is your responsibility to contact the front desk immediately. A notice of 30 days is required to drop a class as well as a fee of $25. Commitment to program participation and tuition payments is enacted after attending two weeks of classes consecutively, by October 1, or by signed registration forms, whichever comes first. A class with less than 5 students may be cancelled at the discretion of the Director of Dance. There are three different payment plans available. (1) Annual payment paid in full upon registration. (2) Payment in two installments: first installment due at registration, or September 1st, whichever is first, and the second installment due on January 1st. (3) Payment in nine installments: first installments due at registration, or September 1, whichever comes first; the remaining installments due on the 1st of each month, with the last payment assessed on May 1st, 2021.Regardless of payment plan option, a $25 late fee will be charged 5 days after payment is past-due.
UNIFORMS Ballet – Creative Movement and Dance Foundations (Dance Basics) Female Identifying: Pink Leotard with attached skirt, or pink leotard and pull-on skirt and pink tights. Pink full sole ballet shoes (canvas or leather). Black patent leather tap shoes, with rubber band or elastic closures. Hair worn out of the face and eyes; bun preferred. Male Identifying: White or black fitted T-Shirt. Black bike shorts, tights, or leggings. Black ballet shoes. Black tap shoes. Hair worn out of the face and eyes. Ballet – Elementary Level (Beginning Ballet) Female Identifying: Black cap sleeved leotard with attached skirt, wrapped skirt or pull-on skirt. Pink footed or transition tights and pink ballet shoes. Split sole ballet shoe is allowed. Hair worn up in a tight bun. Male Identifying: White or black fitted T-Shirt. Black bike shorts, tights, or leggings. Black ballet shoes. (If worn without footed tights, black ankle length socks help maintain the integrity of ballet shoes longer.) Hair worn out of the face and eyes. Ballet – Intermediate, Advanced, Company and Adult Female Identifying: Black leotard any sleeve length, with wrapped skirt or pull-on skirt. Pink footed or transition tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair worn up in a tight bun. Male Identifying: White or black fitted T-Shirt. Black bike shorts, tights, or leggings. Black ballet shoes. (If worn without footed tights, black ankle length socks help maintain the integrity of ballet shoes longer.) Hair worn out of the face and eyes. Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, or Modern Black leotard or fitted shirt. Black bike shorts, convertible tights, leggings, or jazz pants. Tan jazz shoes (for jazz and/or hip-hop); tan tap shoes (for tap); clean sneakers (for hip-hop); bare feet or lyrical shoes (for modern). (If shoes are worn without footed tights, black ankle length socks help maintain the integrity of shoes longer.) Hair worn out of the face and eyes. Flamenco/Folklorico Black leotard or fitted shirt. Skirt appropriate to the genre of dance. (Please contact the instructor or main office for more information.) Black bike shorts, tights, leggings, or jazz pants (to be worn under the skirt, if not in a leotard). Black folklorico heeled shoes. (If worn without footed tights, ankle length socks help maintain the integrity of shoes longer.) Hair worn out of the face and eyes.
COVID-19 Studio Policies The following guidelines will be evaluated and updated regularly based on the latest CDC and government guidelines: It is highly recommended that all students wear face-coverings while inside our facilities, including the studio, lobby, and dressing rooms. Students in all levels below the Advanced program are especially encouraged to continue to wear a face covering. All individuals entering the facilities will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the building.
Class Procedures Students will not be sharing items. Please send students with their own snacks, water bottle, yoga mat, and any other necessary supplies.
Cleaning/Safety Procedures Staff will sanitize the ballet barres, door knobs, and other hard surfaces between all classes.
Illness Procedures If you have a cough, fever or are sick please stay home. You are welcome to participate in virtual classes; please notify staff in a timely fashion.
Please do not come to the studio if you or someone you have been exposed to tested positive or had COVID-like symptoms within the past 14 days. Please contact us to let us know if your child will participate from home via Zoom instead until contact tracing or conclusive testing has been completed.
Dancers who test positive for Covid-19 must remain home until they have been cleared by a doctor and must provide documentation.
