Elementary Program

Elementary Level is suggested for students ages 6-8 for those with previous dance experience or 9+ with no dance experience.  Our Elementary level is designed to introduce students to a range of dance styles including ballet, tap, and jazz. Male-identifying students are also eligible to take the Men’s Class. At this stage in training, the objective of classes becomes specific to the style of dance, developing vocabularies, unique approaches to movement, and aesthetic preferences for each class. All classes at this level are one-hour in duration, but classes of different styles may be back-to-back. It is recommended that Elementary Level students take a one-hour class twice a week.

Ballet
Alamo City Arts Academy teaches classical ballet to help improve coordination, balance and flexibility while teaching the basic ballet positions, steps, and terminology through standing barre work and simple center floor exercises. Dancers will also enjoy simple and fun exercises in creative dance and music exploration.  This beginning level class is designed to develop awareness of alignment and basic ballet vocabulary and technique.
Tap
Elementary tap focuses on developing  coordination, sense of time and basic tap dancing vocabulary. Classes are taught to a wide range of musical selection broadening students’ musical horizons.
Jazz/ Hip-hop
This class is designed to introduce jazz technique, focusing on basic jazz positions turns jumps and leaps. Students will also learn center and longer combinations of movement progressions as well as proper stretching techniques to enhance strength and flexibility.
