 Frequently Asked Questions:
  1. I've made the cast!!! What do I do next?  Please Read all the information below, all the way to the bottom of the page. Those accepting their roles must attend an orientation meeting on September 7th at 2pm at Alamo City Arts. A lot of information will be covered! Even if you have been in an Alamo City Dance Company Nutcracker before, attendance is mandatory.  Dancers under 18 must have a guardian present.  At that time, you will receive a packet of information with costume needs, ticketing information, and a rehearsal schedule.  If you accept your role(s) you must sign a waiver before you will be allowed to attend rehearsal.  If there are extenuating circumstances and you cannot attend the orientation meeting, please call/text 210.369.8311 or email [email protected] as soon as possible.  If you do not attend the orientation and do not contact Alamo City Arts in advanced, your parts will be released immediately after the orientation and recast.
  2. Check your email!  The email you registered with will receive an information regarding all the upcoming information you need before orientation at 7pm on August 31st.  If you did not get the "Congratulations to the 2024 Nutcracker Cast", please check your spam.  If you still didn't receive it please email [email protected].
  3. How many shows will I get to dance in?   We only have one cast.  If you are cast in a role, that is your role for all the performances. Alamo City Arts’ 31st Nutcracker will be December 14th at 2pm and 7pm  at Fort Sam Houston Theater and December 21st & December 22nd at at 2pm and 7pm at Thiry Auditorium.  All these productions will be with our resident symphony orchestra, Alamo City Symphony Viva.  December 20th we will be hosting our 7th annual Sensory Friendly Nutcracker Production featuring Eva’s Heroes. Dancers under 10 will not be involved in the production as those role go to the Eva's Heroes Participants. All performances are ticketed events and tickets must be purchased to attend.
  4. My Schedule/availability has changed, what should I do? Please call/text 210.369.8311 or email [email protected] right away.  We will try to work with the schedule you provide but please note we will not be able to accommodate everyone. Just as we stated at auditions, your availability to attend dress rehearsals and performances will affect your casting and placement on stage.
  5. When do I rehearse?  Rehearsals dates and times are dependent on roles you are cast in.  A full schedule will be given at orientation, September 7th at 2pm.  We rehearse Fridays 7-9pm and Saturdays 1-5pm. Some Sundays and Weekdays may be called closer to production.
  6. What happens if I can't make a rehearsal? Rehearsal attendance is mandatory. In consideration for everyone's time, you will forfeit your part after 3 missed rehearsals.
  7. How much will this cost? As stated at auditions, we do not charge an audition fee, however there is an $100 performance fee to participate in the production.  It is a flat fee regardless of how many parts you are cast in.  Want to skip the line at orientation?  You can pay now! Click Here
  8. What if I don't want all the parts I'm cast in? As stated at auditions, casting selections were carefully made based on several factors, including your communicated availability, technical ability, and previous experience. Due to the large scale of our production, and considering these factors, you may be cast in more than one role. It is Alamo City Arts’ policy that you accept all your roles or none of your roles. If there are extenuating circumstances and you feel you cannot meet the demands of your parts, we will be happy to work with you; however, the Artistic staff will decide where to pull back on roles.
  9. Can I get a jump start on the orientation paper work so I don't have to wait in lines? Absolutely!  Registration forms and Performance fees are available now!  Tickets, Waivers and T-shirt order forms will be ready on Sept. 7th.  Click Here!
This is a traditional full length story ballet put on by a dance company, with professional and semi-professional company dancers taking leading roles.  That means each non-company dancer that wanted to be part of this production was put in roles that best fit their level of training, experience, availability and audition performance.  This is not a studio showcase or an end of semester recital.  This production is a ballet, so it is important that you are attending ballet classes regularly to build stamina, prevent injury, as well maintain, and improve technique.  We only have a few rehearsals to set choreography and blocking so it is important that you come rehearsal prepared. Any absence or lack of commitment during rehearsals will necessitate adjustments to uphold the production's caliber.

NOTE ON CASTING FROM THE DIRECTOR -
Hello Cast,
Please remember that the cast and roles of this Nutcracker are constantly evolving.  We always welcome understudies because parts may change at anytime for any reason.  Please also remember our production is original.  Roles and choreography will be different from other Nutcracker productions we have done in the past as well as other productions you may have participated in.  If you have questions about your part(s) and what they entail please don't hesitate to reach out.  I look forward to seeing everyone again on September 7th.

Sincerely,
Katie Rodriguez Hall
