FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Alamo City Arts Launches New Theatre Division: Alamo City Stage Company San Antonio, TX — 7/25/2024 — Alamo City Arts is proud to announce the establishment of a new division, Alamo City Stage Company, dedicated to bringing dynamic and diverse theatrical productions to San Antonio. This exciting expansion will make Alamo City Arts the most diverse arts organization in San Antonio, further enriching the local arts scene by providing audiences with an array of performances that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of the city. Heading the Alamo City Stage Company is the esteemed Shawn Kjos, whose extensive experience and creative vision will undoubtedly elevate the company to new heights. Shawn Kjos has served as the Artistic Director at the historic Ft Sam Houston Harlequin Theatre for the past 13 seasons. During his tenure, he has written, directed, and produced over 50 productions, including more than 30 original shows authored by Kjos. Shawn’s career began on some of the most beautiful cruise ships at sea, where he opened for and collaborated with performers like Petula Clark, Joel Grey, and The Four Freshmen. Upon his return to San Antonio, Shawn debuted the role of “Jack” at Sea World’s Howl-O-Scream and became a veteran performer at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. His work has been recognized by The Alamo Theatre Arts Council with numerous awards, including Best Direction of a Musical, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, Best Musical Arrangements, Best Music Direction, and Musical of the Year. The U.S. Army Festival of the Arts has also honored Shawn for excellence in vocal performance, costume design, and sound design. Spanning over two decades, Shawn's career in entertainment and event logistics in San Antonio is marked by his talent booking for the city’s major events and large-scale corporate gatherings. He holds a Master’s in Marketing from Our Lady of the Lake University. “We are thrilled to have Shawn Kjos join Alamo City Arts as the Director of Alamo City Stage Company,” said Katie Rodriguez Hall, Artistic Director of Alamo City Arts. “His exceptional track record and artistic prowess will be instrumental in expanding our mission’s reach to create outstanding theatrical experiences for our community.” Alamo City Arts already boasts a diverse array of artistic groups, including a ballet folklorico company, concert band, dance company, dance studio, and symphony. The addition of the Alamo City Stage Company further cements Alamo City Arts as the most diverse arts organization in San Antonio, offering a comprehensive range of artistic experiences under one umbrella.
