Free, TEKS-aligned performances that connect students with music, dance, storytelling, and cultural learning across Bexar County and surrounding communities.
In partnership with school districts, Alamo City Arts brings high-quality, TEKS-aligned music and dance performances directly to students, with a focus on campuses where access to live performing arts may be limited. These concerts are often a student’s first experience with live performance, connecting classroom learning to culture, creativity, and artistic expression.
By removing transportation barriers and tailoring performances to school communities, the Student Concert Series makes the arts accessible, educational, and unforgettable.

Carnival of the Animals
Heart of Texas Concert Band and Alamo City Dance Company
Students experience Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals through a vivid blend of live concert band music and dance. Presented by HTxCB and Alamo City Dance Company, this performance brings lions, swans, elephants, fossils, and other musical characters to life through rhythm, melody, movement, and imagination. Students learn how composers use instruments to create personality and mood, while dancers show how music can be interpreted through the body, transforming sound into story.
Performance Dates and Venues:
October 7, 2026, Steele High School
October 8, 2026, Legacy High School
Home Schools are not allowed to register at Steele or Legacy events.

Mariachi Gallos de Oro and Alamo City Ballet Folklórico
Students are introduced to the traditions of Día de los Muertos through the energy of live mariachi music, the color and movement of ballet folklórico, and the storytelling behind this meaningful cultural celebration. The performance connects music, dance, history, and visual symbolism, helping students understand how the arts preserve memory, honor family, and celebrate cultural identity.

November 4, 2026, Clemens High School
November 5, 2026, Edgewood Theatre of Performing Arts
November 6, 2026, Reagan High School
Homeschool participation is available for the Edgewood performance.

Alamo City Symphony Viva
Presented in conjunction with the San Antonio Symphony League’s Paint to Music contest, this Symphony Viva student concert introduces students to the way composers transform a musical idea through variation, contrast, instrumentation, rhythm, and mood. Through live orchestral performance, students hear how a theme can change character, build emotion, and inspire visual imagination.
As part of the Paint to Music experience, students are invited to listen deeply and respond creatively, translating what they hear into original artwork. The program connects music, visual art, imagination, listening skills, and artistic expression, helping students understand how one theme can inspire many interpretations.

March 22, 2027, Southwest High School
March 23, 2027, Brennan High School
March 24, 2027, Judson High School
Homeschool participation is available for the Judson performance.
