Bill Gowen, co-principal percussion

Bill Gowen
has been a professional musician since the age of 12.  A third generation musician, his musical influences go all the way from Palestrina to Pantera.  His musical experiences go from small combos, musical theater, and of course, orchestral, which he has been a Timpanist in local orchestras since his sophomore year in high school.  As a student of Harvey Biskin (the Timpanist and Assistant Conductor of the San Antonio Symphony), he earned a Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance from Trinity University.  Besides his playing career, Bill had a 20-year career as a Percussion Educator, which earned him a Vic Firth endorsement.  In the recent past, Bill spent ten (10) years as Timpanist and Principal Percussionist of the Heart of Texas Concert Band.  Currently, besides his role in Symphony Viva, he is also the Timpanist of the University of the Incarnate Word Orchestra and the S.M.A.R.T. Orchestra of San Marcos.  Bill wishes to thank his wife, son, and parents for all the support in his long music career.
