Alamo City Performing Arts (ACPAA) has conceived a piece of art for the graduating seniors throughout the San Antonio community to congratulate and celebrate them on their graduation. ACPAA’s resident orchestra, Symphony Viva, is currently creating a special, social distancing rendition of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1, which will serve as the sound to a unique form of video dance celebrating the Graduation Ceremonies we are all missing this year. We are asking any and all Graduating Seniors to dance with us in a new way as we make our own form of the traditional graduation ceremony. Our goal at ACPAA is to generate meaningful artistic experiences for the San Antonio community, and we hope that through the making of this piece we can generate a unique work for high school seniors, both dancers and non-dancers alike.
Michael Landez, a local choreographer and MFA Candidate in Dance at the University of Iowa has conceived of a piece of video-art to celebrate local graduating seniors. To achieve this ambitious project, we are asking local seniors to record and submit a short video of three movements; 1. “Walking the stage”, 2. Tossing their cap, and 3. Moving the tassel from the right side of the head to the left side. The digitization of these movements will then be compiled into a unique piece of video art that we hope will function as a reminder of this experience in ways that still photos, an online ceremony, or a drive-up diploma pick-up may not archive as efficiently. The deadline to submit videos to be included in the final product will be Friday, June 5th, 2020 at 10PM. The final piece will be premiered on our Facebook and Instagram (@AlamoCityPerformingArts) on Friday, June 12th, 2020.
Please use the button above to submit the video of your high school senior through Google Forms. If you are having problems, you can always send the video directly to [email protected].
Don't forget to include: Graduate's Name High School Attended Honors Future Plans
We can't wait to see you all dancing with us soon!
How to participate:
Take a video of your graduating senior in a series of three movements:
"Walking the Stage"
Throwing their cap up in the air
Moving the tassel from the right side of the head to the left side.
Videos of seniors in the series of three movements can be made in one take, and we will cut around the in-between parts. Graduates cam film wherever they like. We’d love to see them dressed up in their cap, gown, stole, tassels, medals, anything. Videos can be filmed on a smart phone, tablet, or computer – no fancy cameras required. The deadline to submit videos to be included in the final product will be June 5th, 2020 at 10PM. To turn in a video, please email it to us at [email protected] or use the button above.
