Jose Segovia, principal tuba
Jose Segovia served 36 years in the field of education prior to retiring in 2011. Since then, Jose has taught private lessons to students for the past six years. Jose is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Degree in Music Education; his graduate degree is in Education Leadership.
He has performed in musicals, both at San Antonio Playhouse, Fort Sam Houston Playhouse, and at The Uvalde Playhouse. He has performed in productions such as “My Fair Lady,” “The Music Man,” “The Sound of Music,” “Carousel,” “Finian’s Rainbow,” “The King and I,” “The Man from La Mancha,” “1776”, and “Jesus Christ Superstar”.
Jose began his studies with Mr. Ellen Wood, who convinced a reluctant student at the time to perform solo literature. Other teachers were Wade K. Wilson (UTA), Cecil Morris (UTA), Earl Hoffman (San Antonio Symphony,) and Michael Sanders (San Antonio Symphony).
Currently, Jose maintains a music studio at Southside ISD and teaches private students throughout San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Segovia enjoys performing in groups with a wide variety of genres including liturgical to modern and even German dance band music. A member of the Heart of Texas Community Band, San Antonio Viva Orchestra, Incarnate Word Orchestra, Beethoven Concert Band, and Beethoven German Dance Band.
Mr. Segovia has performed with the Helotes Community Band, Bexar Brass Band, County Line Community Band, Incarnate Word Brass Quintet, and Alamo Pops Concert Band, and San Marcos Artists Retention and Training Orchestra.
Jose is a member of the Heart of Texas Concert Band, the Helotes Community Band, the Beethoven Concert Band, the Beethoven German Dance Band, the Bexar Brass Band, the County Line Community Band, the Incarnate Word Brass Quintet, and the Alamo Pops Concert Band. Mr. Segovia is married to Jo Segovia, a Special Education Teacher at Northside ISD. They have two sons, John and Joseph who share the love of music.
