Programs

We invite you to explore how our programs connect the community and how you can support this essential work.

From October through May, students in underserved schools participate in weekly dance classes
that foster physical activity, discipline, and creative expression. Beyond technical skills, this
program nurtures emotional development, promotes teamwork, and provides a safe, supportive
environment where students feel seen and valued.
For many children, this is more than a dance class, it’s something to look forward to each week.
It’s a reason to stay engaged in school, a space to channel energy positively, and an experience that builds confidence and connection. By investing in enrichment during critical afterschool hours, we offer an alternative to negative influences and play a role in long-term community safety and criminal justice reform.
YOU can help: Support a classroom, donate dance shoes, or sponsor a semester of instruction to give children a reason to hope and a place to shine.

Our summer arts camps were born from a single request: a child in our afterschool program was
relocated to a shelter and asked, “Can I still go to dance?” That question inspired the launch of
this initiative to ensure that even in times of upheaval, children can continue to experience the
joy, structure, and hope that the arts provide.
Through dance, music, and theater, children in shelters find a sense of normalcy, explore their
creativity, and build confidence in a safe, supportive environment. These camps offer more than
artistic instruction, they create emotional stability, meaningful social interaction, and healing moments that help kids rediscover joy and imagine a brighter future.
YOU can help: Underwrite a camper, donate supplies, or help fund meals and transportation to
make sure no child has to leave the arts behind.

Talented students facing financial hardship receive training in dance and the performing arts an
opportunity that can change the trajectory of their lives. Scholarships foster self-confidence,
discipline, and artistic growth.
YOU can help: Establish a named scholarship, give monthly, or sponsor a full year of training.

Our inclusive dance classes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
are designed to promote physical mobility, enhance social interaction, and encourage joyful self-
expression in a safe, welcoming space. Led by experienced instructors trained in adaptive methods, these classes are structured to celebrate each participant’s unique abilities while fostering confidence, creativity, and connection.
For many participants, this is not just a class, it’s a rare space where they can be themselves,
express emotions through movement, and build friendships without judgment. The atmosphere is uplifting and supportive, making it a true community where every dancer is valued.
YOU can help: Provide class sponsorships, to help ensure every dancer has access to the joy and confidence that comes from movement and belonging.

Each year, Alamo City Arts presents a Sensory-Friendly Nutcracker that redefines inclusion by placing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) at the center of the stage. In this special production, IDD participants are paired with our trained dancers to perform together creating an unforgettable experience where they are celebrated as stars.
This performance does more than entertain it empowers. For our IDD performers, it’s a moment of visibility, confidence, and joy. For our dancers, it’s a transformative opportunity to build friendships, foster empathy, and gain a deeper understanding of the IDD community. These bonds often extend beyond the curtain, sparking long-term connections that continue to enrich both lives.
YOU can help: Sponsor a performer, donate fund to go towards costumes, or support sensory-
friendly adaptations that make the magic of theater accessible to all.

Picture
Alamo City Arts donates 20% of tickets from all major performances to nonprofits, schools, and families in economically or geographically challenged areas. This initiative ensures that individuals who may not otherwise have the means or access can still experience the magic, wonder, and inspiration of live dance, music, and theater.
Exposure to the performing arts can be life changing. For children, it can ignite a lifelong passion or open the door to new possibilities. For families, it provides a shared cultural experience that strengthens bonds and fosters pride. For communities, it builds a sense of inclusion and belonging—ensuring that the arts reflect and reach all of San Antonio, not just a select few.
By removing financial and logistical barriers, we make the arts truly accessible. These donated tickets become more than just seats, they become moments of joy, discovery, and connection.
YOU can help: Cover the cost of a ticket bundle and give the gift of the arts to a child, family, or community who needs it most.

Alamo City Arts brings the performing arts directly to the people, offering free concerts and performances that uplift, unite, and celebrate the diversity of our community. From the Heart of Texas Concert Band’s stirring public concerts to Alamo City Ballet Folklorico’s vibrant showcases at cultural festivals, these events create shared moments of joy that transcend age, background, and circumstance.
We also collaborate with community partners to bring live performances to nonprofit organizations and the individuals they serve. Whether performing for pediatric cancer patients, children in shelters, or other vulnerable populations, our goal is simple: to share the healing, inspiring power of the performing arts with our neighbors wherever they are.
Signature events like Make Music San Antonio a citywide celebration that fills the Botanical Garden with nonstop performances from morning to night and Holidays on Houston Street a magical downtown experience that brings seasonal cheer to thousands are just a few of the ways we bring accessible, high-quality performances to the public.
These concerts don’t just entertain they build community, enhance public spaces, and ensure that the arts remain a vital, visible part of everyday life in San Antonio.
YOU can help: Sponsor a concert, provide equipment, or help fund outreach and marketing efforts to spread the word and increase impact.

Picture
Alamo City Arts presents free ballets and music concerts at military installations like Fort Sam
Houston, honoring our service members while enriching the lives of their families through shared cultural experiences. These performances provide a welcome escape from the demands of military life, offering a moment of beauty, reflection, and emotional release that helps alleviate mental fatigue and boost morale.
By bringing the performances directly to the base, we eliminate barriers such as cost and transportation making it easy for service members, especially new recruits without off-base access, to enjoy professional-caliber arts experiences without ever having to leave their post. For families, it becomes a meaningful way to connect, unwind, and feel appreciated.
These events are more than entertainment; they are gestures of gratitude, healing, and community connection.
YOU can help: Underwrite a performance, underwrite our performers’ craft services, or help us expand this program to more bases throughout the region.

Picture
The Memory Lane Dance Band brings timeless music from the Glenn Miller era and the Great American Songbook directly into retirement communities offering more than just a concert, but a
joyful revival of cherished memories. For senior audiences, these performances evoke the soundtrack of their youth, sparking connection, storytelling, and moments of genuine happiness.
Live music has been shown to support cognitive function, reduce feelings of isolation, and elevate emotional well-being among older adults. These concerts often encourage dancing, laughter, and engagement fostering social bonds between residents, caregivers, and guests. The result is a vibrant, shared experience that enriches not just individuals, but the overall health and spirit of the community.
By bringing the arts to where they live, we offer seniors dignity, delight, and a meaningful reminder that they are seen, celebrated, and deeply valued.
YOU can help: Sponsor a show, donate refreshments, or underwrite transportation to ensure more seniors experience the healing and happiness of live music.

In partnership with school districts, Alamo City Arts brings high-quality, TEKS-aligned music and dance performances directly into Title I schools. These events often students’ first exposure to live performing arts, connect classroom learning to cultural experiences, deepen appreciation for the arts, and spark curiosity in young minds. By removing transportation barriers and tailoring performances to each campus, we make the arts accessible, impactful, and unforgettable.
Designed to support diverse learning styles auditory, visual, and kinesthetic these performances help students engage with core concepts through music, movement, and storytelling.
